Going to Africa ? You have to include Uganda
Uganda is an East African country that got its name from the Buganda Kingdom that ruled large parts of the country before the British came knocking. In fact, the kingdom still exists today, but without political power (the British made sure of that for fear of revolts and uprisings co-ordinated by the Buganda Kings). The Kabakas, the royal name given to the kings, are still revered in Uganda and anybody seeking political power in the country must get their blessing.
Thus said, Uganda is a cultural and safari adventures destination. Below are places you would want to visit.
1. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - Thanks to people like Dian Fossey, Uganda is one of the three countries in the world that have large families of mountain gorillas. The others are Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo. If you have no clue why the mountain gorillas are that important, here is why: they are the closest primates to the modern Homo sapiens.
2. Kibale National Park - Located at an elevation of 1100 and 1600 meters, the national park is an evergreen and moist place that has thriving populations of wildlife such as buffaloes, antelopes, leopards, zebras and giraffes. If you can survive the moist, this park is the best place to have a wildlife safari in Uganda.
3. Lake Mburo National Park - I guess by now you have realized that Uganda has many national parks given that its top three destinations are wildlife-themed. As beautiful as this park is, it has one dark blip in its history - it was the center of the Operation Bonanza where 300,000 Banyakole Tribesmen were massacred for supporting the rebels against former president Milton Obote.
4. Kasubi Tombs - This a burial site for four Kabakas (kings of Buganda people). It is a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site and it is one of the best places to enjoy Ugandan hospitality. If you come from the west, the service you get from the ladies is refreshingly surprising. In your country you are used to feminist having their way even when they are wrong because the politicians want to be politically correct. Well, in Uganda, the ladies treats you like royalty - call me chauvinist if you want - but every man feels great when the lady in his life is this humble.
5. Ssese Islands - Although Uganda is landlocked, it forms a large part of Lake Victoria. Ssese Islands are an archipelago of eighty four islands located in the Ugandan territory of Lake Victoria. Trust me; you would love going into the lake and catch a tilapia. You can then cook the tilapia over open fire and have it for supper.
Uganda is part of the East African Community and together with Kenya and Rwanda; you just need one tourist visa to visit all its attractions, as well as those of its neighbors. This is a great deal if you ask me...
